Families For A Better School Board Releases Petition Demanding Board Resignations & Dismissal of John Ramirez Jr.

Stockton, CA – This afternoon, Families for a Better School Board is forwarding a petition to the Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) Board of Trustees, signed by over 175 concerned Stockton families, demanding the rescinding of the appointment of John Ramirez Jr. as interim Superintendent of SUSD.  John Ramirez Jr. has a known record of sexual harassment https://www.ksbw.com/article/alisal-schools-superintendent-to-resign/1057424  and misuse of public funds as a school district leader. The petition signers are also demanding that Board Trustees Cecilia Mendez, Maria Mendez, Scot McBrian, Ray Zulueta, and Alicia Rico resign immediately from the SUSD Board of Trustees for pushing forward with hiring Ramirez Jr., for misuse of censure to silence dissenting board members, for a lack of transparency, and for repeated violations of the Brown Act.

Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla, spokesperson for Families for a Better School Board, commented: “The five trustees pushing forward with the censure of Trustees Flores and Vargas for no legitimate reason, and with the hiring of such a poor candidate for the SUSD Superintendent position, have failed the community. Rather than working to solve the $22 million structural SUSD deficit, improving distance learning, supporting families and SUSD staff earnestly during a pandemic, they continue to advance a weak, incomplete, and corrupt agenda with the help of a handful of local union leaders. Their leadership does not reflect the values of the community. It is time for them to go.”
